SENIOR ACADEMY FRESHMAN IPS SCHOLARSHIP

The Freshman Scholarship for Indianapolis Public School (IPS) students is designed to support the success of IPS graduates, including Innovation Network schools. The scholarship helps fund tuition and books for high-achieving IPS graduates who show the potential for academic excellence at IU Indianapolis. Depending on funds availability, one or two scholarships will be awarded each year to beginning freshmen. The scholarship is renewable for up to four years based on academic performance.  

Amount: $1,000 per year, up to $4,000 total.

Samantha Vilchis

Samantha Vilchis has the goal of a bachelor's degree in nursing with a broader career objective of providing affordable health care to marginalized communities in the United States. Becoming an RN aligns with her long-time passion of assisting others and trying to improve their quality of life. In pursuit of that goal, she will learn about the community’s medical needs and how to help improve the conditions for providing it with quality health care. For that reason, she plans to attend medical school and to specialize in oncology in order to contribute to advances in the cancer research field.

She feels strongly about giving back to underserved populations in the U.S. who she knows struggle every day to sustain a family, and who do not have as much access to medical assistance as more privileged groups. She envisions creating a non-profit organization that will offer internships for medical school students throughout the nation and that also allows those interns to travel to isolated communities around the world to provide free medical services.
