Whether you like to get out and about, or whether you prefer educational events, Senior Academy has something for you! Upcoming activities include a seminar on charitable giving for retirees, book discussions, nature walks with a side of culture, opportunities to knit with friends, and two popular events—the 2022 Last Lecture and the Spirit and Place Festival.
- Love Shakespeare? Stephen Greenblatt’s Will in the World: How Shakespeare Became Shakespeare is up for discussion at the online book club on September 14th at 11 a.m. Feel free to invite friends to participate in this wide-ranging discussion on Zoom. Both you and any guests should register to get the link. The October 12th book selection is The Twilight of Democracy by Anne Applebaum.
- Interested in crafts with a purpose? The String Theory group meets the second Tuesday of each month at 4:30 p.m. to knit and crochet cold weather gear for those in need. When you register, you will be sent details about the location, which is a member’s home. Register for String Theory.
- SA members are invited to attend hybrid meetings of the Senior Academy Board of Directors; you are welcome to attend in person or on Zoom. The next board meeting is October 13 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. in Campus Center 266. For Zoom details, contact Board president Georgia Miller at ude[dot]cupui[at]rellimg.

- A workshop called “Philanthropy Focused on Your Passion: How to Benefit from the Gifts You Give,” coming up in November. Details to follow.
- Our Spirit and Place Festival event “Past Is Present: Black Artists Respond to the Complicated Histories of Slavery” includes a panel discussion on Saturday, November 5, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Basile Auditorium, 735 W. New York St. Also, an exhibit by Indianapolis artists will be open from September 28, 2022, through January 15, 2023.
The Last Lecture will be held at the Campus Center Theater on November 4, from 2 to 4 p.m. Dr. Sherry Queener, Professor Emerita of Pharmacology and Toxicology, and former director of the IU Graduate School, will be the featured speaker.
